Manchester United ‘waiting to announce’ sixth summer signing after Sergio Romero deal

United set to announce another signing already?

Manchester United are reportedly waiting to announce another new signing this summer, with Spanish source El Confidencial claiming they will follow up their deal for Sergio Romero by bringing in another goalkeeper in Jasper Cillessen.

The Red Devils already have David de Gea as their number one, with a proposed move to Real Madrid not yet materialising and perhaps not on the cards until next summer, according to the Daily Mirror.

Better yet, they have even signed another backup goalkeeper to provide an upgrade on Victor Valdes, with the club’s official website yesterday confirming the arrival of Argentine shot-stopper Romero on a three-year contract.

Still, sources in Spain now seem to think another goalkeeper arrival is just around the corner, with additional information from the Metro stating that the deal has already been agreed for the Ajax star and is just awaiting a formal announcement.

What this means for the future of players like De Gea and Valdes remains unclear, but it seems surprising that manager Louis van Gaal would feel the need to have four top class ‘keepers competing for a place in the starting lineup, with big names like Romero and Valdes surely not likely to settle for failing to even make the bench.

Valdes has been vaguely linked with Turkish side Antalyaspor this summer, though his agent ruled that out in a report in the Guardian.
