Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz has revealed his joy at the imminent arrival of Angel Di Maria and believes the Manchester United winger can help deliver the Champions League title for the French giants.
The Argentine international is expected to complete his transfer from the Red Devils to the reigning Ligue 1 champions early this week after a difficult debut season in English football following his club record transfer from Real Madrid last summer.
A fee of £45million has reportedly been agreed for Di Maria, meaning United are set to make a significant loss on the player they splashed £59.7million on and his spell in Manchester is set to end on a sour note after failing to board a flight in order to join the squad for their pre-season tour of the United States.
However, Luiz says Di Maria is up there with the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of ability and has backed his former teammate at Benfica to take Ligue 1 by storm:
“We want to win the Champions League and of course Di Maria is a player that can help us go up another step,” the former Chelsea defender said [via Telegraph Sport]
“Di Maria is one of the top three wingers in the world. He’s fast, technical, he plays for the team, he knows how to play as an individual, how to pass, how to score.”
“Sometimes you can not have luck in one place, but he is still a fantastic player. I know him from Benfica, we played with each other when we were very young.”
“He will love playing in the French league just like I do. He is my friend and I love him,” Luiz added.
