Man United ready to spend entire £70.7m transfer budget to secure sixth summer signing

Man United boss Louis van Gaal is ready to use up all his remaining transfer budget funds in a move to sign Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller according to Sport Bild [via the Metro].

The Old Trafford manager knows Muller well from his time in charge at the Allianz Arena, with van Gaal having handed the German international his big break in the first-team, and now hopes to make the World Cup winner his sixth summer signing.

SportBild claim van Gaal is ready to offer £70.7m for the 25-year-old forward, who can play either out wide or in a central striking role, having already successfully lured Bastian Schweinsteiger from the Bundesliga giants.

Muller is now a pivotal member of Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich side and is tied down to a long-term contract with the Bavarian outfit [via The Guardian].

Louis van Gaal’s decision to sell Robin van Persie to Fenerbahce has left Man United short of goal-scoring options, and Muller is capable of playing across the attack. This versatility could suit the Dutch boss’s preferred 4-3-3 formation.

Muller has netted 20+ goals in each of the last three seasons in Bavaria, and last term only two players provided more Bundesliga assists than the lanky forward, illustrating just how capable a provider the Bayern Munich star has become as he has matured.

Thomas Muller has won just about every major honour available to him for both club and country, with the attacker having bagged four Bundesliga titles, four DFB Pokal triumphs a Champions League winner’s medal, as well as leading Germany to the 2014 World Cup crown, whilst also finishing the 2010 World Cup as top-scorer.
