Chelsea are looking to spend £44 million on a pair of defenders to improve their back line for years to come.
The Blues are first interested in Augsburg star Baba Rahman, who is thought to command a fee of at least £14 million. On top of that the left-back is going to sign a five-year contract worth £27,000-a-week according to the Metro.
The 21-year-old made 34 appearances for the Bundesliga side last season, and is one of the top young talents in the league. With Filipe Luis joining Atletico Madrid, the move becomes even more urgent as the 29-year-old needs to be replaced.
The Brazilian was behind Cesar Azpilicueta in the pecking order during his single campaign at Stamford Bridge, but they will still need another to back up the Spaniard. Being young, Rahman could also improve as an understudy to the full-back before eventually taking over from him.
Manager Jose Mourinho isn’t going to end there though, with an even bigger move in the offing…
