Man United: Louis van Gaal admits tension as star man’s transfer future remains unresolved

Manchester United coach Louis van Gaal has admitted that the on-going transfer speculation concerning David De Gea is affecting the Red Devils.

The Spain goalkeeper has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid throughout the summer, and at various times during the last few months, a move had appeared imminent [via Star Sport].

However, with United and Real unable to agree terms for the goalkeeper, the situation remains unresolved, despite the new Premier League season drawing near.

The Merengues have lost their first-choice stopper this summer, when the legendary Iker Casillas swapped the Spanish capital for FC Porto [via BBC Sport], and it remains to be seen whether Rafael Benitez will be content to use either Keylor Navas or new recruit Kiko Casilla will be an adequate replacement for the departed great.

While van Gaal would surely not wish to see De Gea—one of his key contributors—leave Old Trafford, he has hinted that the ongoing unresolved situation is hurting the Red Devils.

“We have a situation that is not favourable for David de Gea, neither for us and neither for the club that, maybe, he wants to go,” the Dutch coach began, speaking after United’s 2-0 pre-season defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, as per Sky Sports.

The manager had the following to say when asked what the best solution would be for all parties involved in the potential deal: “We have to wait and see. It is the same question as your predecessor.”

Should De Gea depart, United already have a ready-made replacement in their ranks, having moved to sign free agent Sergio Romero [via Sky Sports].
