Liverpool transfer news – another striker deal close.

Liverpool look set to allow Rickie Lambert to join West Bromwich Albion this summer in a move that is expected to be completed within the next few days, according to the Guardian.

The England international has not managed to establish himself in his single season at Anfield, scoring only three times in all competitions and failing to hold down a regular starting spot in Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Still, West Brom have been openly keen to land him this summer, with manager Tony Pulis revealing his interest in the experienced front-man, who shone during his time at Southampton.

Pulis is quoted in the Guardian as saying: “Rickie is available. Liverpool have made that known. We’d be interested. It’s very important that we get players who will score goals and Rickie’s got a great goalscoring record.”

Prior to moving to Liverpool, Lambert hit 29 goals in two seasons with the Saints in the top flight, showing himself to be something of a late bloomer after a career mainly spent in the lower leagues before 2012/13.

There’s no doubt that, despite his difficulty in showing his best form with the Reds, Lambert could be a hit at a mid-table side like West Brom, who would greatly benefit from a top class striker to provide them with 10-15 goals a season after being somewhat over-reliant on the form of youngster Saido Berahino last season.

The 21-year-old hit 20 goals in all competitions for the Baggies, and was the only player at the club to reach double figures, suggesting the side could do with a proven finisher to ease the pressure on their young attacker.
