Manchester United joined by European giants in race to sign Brazil international

Manchester United face competition from Bayern Munich to sign Lazio star Felipe Anderson, reports the Daily Express.

The Bundesliga champions have matched the £24.5 million bid that the Red Devils made for the midfielder, but both teams have had their offers rejected. It is unknown how high either side are willing to go, but both have shown a willingness to spend big this summer already. Douglas Costa was brought to the Allianz Arena for £21 million, while Memphis Depay joined United for £25-30 million [BBC].

The 22-year-old could certainly be worth it after his impressive performances last season helped Le Aquile to finish third in Serie A and qualify for the Champions League. He grabbed 11 goals and seven assists in 37 games during the campaign, and even earned a first international cap for Brazil in June.

United have already signed one attacking midfielder this summer in Depay, and Anderson could join him in a new look front line. It looks like Wayne Rooney will be back as a central striker after appearing in midfield at times last go round, with Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao’s departures leaving the England skipper as the obvious choice for the role.
