Liverpool striker becomes summer transfer target for rivals Tottenham

Spurs keen on surprise move for Reds ace.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is eyeing a surprise raid on rivals Liverpool for the signing of his former Southampton player Rickie Lambert, according to The Times.

The north London side are in need of new options in attack ahead of the new season, with players like Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado badly struggling last season, scoring only three Premier League goals between them all season long.

Lambert didn’t have the best season himself last term, with the 33-year-old only managing to find the back of the net three times in 36 appearances in all competitions, despite previously shining in the English top flight as a Saints player.

Pochettino may feel he could help get the best out of the veteran England international again at White Hart Lane, though some fans may rightly be concerned at the club not bringing in a more long-term option up front.

The Daily Telegraph recently reported that Spurs were also looking at West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino as an option up front, and the young forward would perhaps be a better investment even if Lambert would likely be available on the cheap, according to The Times.

Coincidentally, The Times claim West Brom themselves have also been in talks over a possible move for Lambert, who is sure to be open to an exit from Anfield this summer after struggling to establish himself on Merseyside.
