Arsenal challenge Liverpool in bid for £14.9m La Liga wing wizard

Arsenal have joined the race to sign Real Madrid winger Denis Cheryshev according to Spanish source Fichajes (via the Metro).

24-year-old wide-man Cheryshev has represented Real Madrid for over a decade but is still yet to play a single La Liga fixture for the Bernabeu side and is behind the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Isco and James Rodriguez in the club’s first-team pecking order.

Denis Cheryshev impressed during his season long loan spell at Villarreal last term, the attacker finishing the season as one of the leading assist-makers in La Liga, and already has seven Russian national team caps to his name.

Liverpool are also known to be keen on the Real Madrid man (Fichajes via the Metro) and it’s unclear what his future holds under new boss Rafa Benitez, though the former Anfield boss did use the player during the club’s pre-season tour of Asia.

Liverpool target £8m Man United star in ASTONISHING summer transfer bid

Fichajes (via the Metro) claim that Arsene Wenger is considering registering a €20m (£14.9m) bid for the Real Madrid man though it’s worth noting that the Gunners boss has a wealth of wide-attacking options in his current Emirates Stadium squad.

Wenger can call upon Alexis Sanchez, Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil, Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as possible options to fill roles on either flank.

Arsene Wenger has made little use of the summer transfer window to strengthen his squad thus far with the North London club’s only major addition coming in the form of Chelsea keeper Petr Cech.
