Manchester United offer three-year deal to England international

Manchester United star Ashley Young has been offered a three-year deal at Old Trafford, reports the Daily Star.

The 30-year-old also has the option of another year, after impressing at the back end of last season. The winger ended up winning a place in the starting XI ahead of Angel Di Maria, and managed five assists and two goals in 26 Premier League appearances through the campaign.

This could have something to do with DI Maria’s links with a move to PSG. The 27-year-old seems to be very close to a move to the Parc des Princes [Daily Express], and it is doubtful manager Louis van Gaal wants to lose two left wingers in quick succession.

Young currently has one year left on his £120,000 a week deal (the amount he was said to be set to earn when he joined, according to the Daily Telegraph), and the terms on this offer are thought to be similar to that contract. This will be great for a player who at this time last September would have been seriously doubting his future with the club [Daily Express].

However, even though Young could be tied down, United could still sign another wideman when Di Maria leaves. Barcelona ace Pedro has been linked with the Premier League outfit [Daily Mail], and Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan has also been linked with a move to Manchester [Metro]. This means that although Young has won his future, it doesn’t look like he has won a long-term place in the starting XI.
