Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has given Ed Woodward until Saturday to sign £25m Ajax star Jasper Cillessen, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 63-year-old wants David De Gea’s future with the Red Devils before the season opener next Saturday, and will likely want replacement in his squad as well. They have already signed Sergio Romero this summer, but the 28-year-old is probably going to take over from Victor Valdes. The former Barcelona man has fallen out with his manager and seems set to leave Old Trafford this summer [Goal].

Meanwhile, Cillessen impressed in the World Cup last season, under the tutelage of the United manager. The pair could be keen on a reunion as a result, which will be good news for fans. The 26-year-old is proven domestically and internationally, and could be ready to make the step up from the Eredivisie.

The Dutchman isn’t the only player who has been linked with replacing De Gea at Old Trafford this season. Any move is of course dependent on the Spain international moving to Real Madrid, but that looks increasingly likely to happen [ESPN].

As a result, Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris has had a move to United mooted by the Daily Mirror earlier this summer, and may actually be a better choice than Cillessen. Although he is older at 28, the France international is proven in the Premier League and could be more prepared for the pressure at the club.
