Sunderland are confident of landing QPR midfielder Leroy Fer on a season long loan deal according to The Sun.

The Dutch international impressed at Loftus Road last term, despite the West London side’s failure to avoid the drop to the Championship, and QPR are keen to wipe the player’s salary off their balance sheet.

Black Cats boss Dick Advocaat guided Sunderland clear of relegation last term and is keen to strengthen his squad this summer and has already brought in a number of summer additions.

Leroy Fer provides a strong central midfield presence with the 25-year-old capable of getting stuck-in whilst also being capable of providing a real threat in the final third with the QPR man well known for his explosive long range finishing.

Advocaat has signed Sebastian Coates and Younes Kaboul from Liverpool and Tottenham respectively, to help solidify his shaky defence and has also secured the signing of Dutch winger Jeremain Lens.
