Man United transfer news: £17.5m signing close, Ed Woodward books meeting for tomorrow

Manchester United could be close to completing a deal to sign Barcelona winger Pedro, with Catalan publication Sport claiming Ed Woodward will fly to Spain tomorrow to finalise the move.

The 27-year-old appears to be about to call time on his long career at the Nou Camp, having spent his entire career so far with the club and helping them to no end of success with a whole host of major honours.

Pedro scored against United in Barca’s Champions League final win over the Red Devils in 2011, and also formed part of the side that won the treble in emphatic fashion last season.

Still, the presence of players like Luis Suarez and Neymar in the team blocked Pedro’s path to more first-team action, and it is perhaps little surprise that he seems set for Old Trafford, with Sport claiming United hope to land him for £17.5m, though Barca want more.

The Daily Mail also reported recently that Pedro had told family he wanted the move to Manchester, while BBC Sport reporting on Angel Di Maria’s imminent move to Paris Saint-Germain all suggests this move is on before the end of the summer.

The Metro even suggested that Pedro could be signed in time to play in United’s opening game of the season against Tottenham this weekend, though it may be ambitious to expect the Spaniard to play a part so quickly after completing a move.
