Manchester United star will be HAUNTED BY FAILURE claims Old Trafford legend

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Angel Di Maria will be haunted by his failure at the club, reports the Daily Express.

The 27-year-old looks set to join PSG after just one season at Old Trafford. He managed ten assists and four goals in his solitary campaign, but it was marred by his failure to settle in England and ended with Ashley Young ahead of the Argentina international in the starting XI.

This comes after the winger was signed for £59.7 million from Real Madrid, a record-breaking fee. He will now be going to the Ligue 1 champions for £44 million, meaning the Red Devils will make an eye-watering £15.7 million loss.

Ferdinand believes this will haunt the forward for the rest of his career.

He will now always have on his CV that he was a failure at Man United,” the ex-England international said, “As a professional, I wouldn’t want something like that on my record. If I could rectify it by staying and trying to prove myself, I would have done that.

“As a fan, I would have liked for him to stay there and prove he can perform for Man United. That is what we all wanted to see when the club paid so much for him last summer, but that isn’t happening, it seems. I can understand why some fans are disappointed that he is leaving so soon, but this is a business.

“United may have looked at it this summer and Van Gaal has probably come to the conclusion that he doesn’t fit into his system for whatever reason. At that point, you have to cash in.”

Louis van Gaal won’t want United to be short on wide men now that the former Benfica man has left, and as such has been linked with a move for Barcelona ace Pedro [Sky Sports]. Able to play on either wing and similarly experienced at the highest level, the Spain international could be the perfect replacement.
