Emirates Stadium side close in on Marquee signing.

Arsenal are reportedly in the clear to sign long term target Karim Benzema according to the Daily Telegraph.

The North London side are ready to break their club transfer record to bring in the French international with Real Madrid already earmarking moves to replace the former Lyon man.

Arsenal are ready to offer as much as £50m to sign Karim Benzema with Arsene Wenger convinced he needs a strong prolific forward to lead his Gunners attack.

Wenger opted to use Theo Walcott as his central striking option during Arsenal’s narrow win over Chelsea in the Community Shield on Sunday and the Arsenal manager is ready to bid big to sign Benzema.

Arsene Wenger has used Olivier Giroud as his first choice striker over the past three seasons and the 28-year-old’s tally of 54 goals in 134 appearances is hardly prolific and it’s no surprise that the Arsenal manager would be considering alternatives.

Karim Benzema is a very consistent performer, the 27-year-old having racked up 20+ goals in each of his past five campaigns, and newly appointed Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez is considering using Gareth Bale in a central role which could further hasten the forward’s departure.
