Man United plan to make proposed £22m signing part of new-look three-pronged Old Trafford attack

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal plans to field a new-look three-pronged attack in 2015/16, with Barcelona forward Pedro being offered the chance to play a regular part in Old Trafford proceedings, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Last term, van Gaal used Robin van Persie as his central striking weapon, but the Dutch international has now been sold to Fenerbahce and new signing Memphis Depay looks set to take up a spot on one flank.

The Daily Telegraph believes captain Wayne Rooney is set to fill a central role, whilst 28-year-old Nou Camp star Pedro is primed and ready to be the third member of Man United’s attack.

Pedro saw his first-team chances at Barcelona restricted by the arrival of Luis Suarez from Liverpool last summer, and the Spanish international is set to complete his move to Man United, with the Daily Telegraph stating that the player’s £22m release clause is set to be triggered by the Premier League side.

Such plans to re-shuffle his attacking pack will leave Juan Mata and Ashley Young both fighting for their places in van Gaal’s plans.

Both players showed a real return to form in 2014/15 but will have to be at their very best to once again make themselves regulars in the Dutch coach’s starting eleven should Pedro finalise his move.

Man United have rewarded Young’s efforts with a new three-year contract (via ESPN) whilst another winger, Angel Di Maria, has all but completed his move away from the club to Paris Saint-Germain (via BBC Sport), alleviating the competition somewhat.
