Arsene Wenger reveals latest Arsenal team news ahead of season opener against West Ham, Alexis Sanchez set to miss out

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that Alexis Sanchez, Danny Welbeck and Tomas Rosicky are all set to miss the opening game of the new Premier League season against London rivals West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.

The Frenchman provided an update on the trio in an interview with the club’s official website on Thursday afternoon:

“We have Welbeck on a progressive recovery and Rosicky on a progressive recovery,” he said.

“Alexis is back in training but I don’t think he will be involved on Sunday, it is a bit early maybe. We have to decide that at the end of the week, but I don’t think he will be involved,” Wenger added.

None of the trio have featured for the Gunners during pre-season as Sanchez was given an extended break following his exploits at the Copa America tournament earlier in the summer, where he scored the winning penalty in the shoot-out against Argentina to hand Chile their first major international trophy in 99 years.

Meanwhile Rosicky is recovering from an injury he sustained whilst on international duty with the Czech Republic at the back end of last season and Welbeck has been struggling with a knee problem that caused him to miss the FA Cup final victory over Aston Villa back in May.
