Manchester United star David De Gea could be left out of the side until September, as rumours intensify linking him with Real Madrid, reports the Daily Star.

The 24-year-old has already been left out of their first game with Tottenham. Sergio Romero has taken the Spain international’s place in the side, although if he leaves permanently then a replacement may need to be bought. Ajax ace Jasper Cillessen has been linked with the role [Daily Mail].

“I think when it is the first of September then there is a decision made as the transfer period is over then you have to manage the new situation which is easier,” said Louis van Gaal.

De Gea could well be on his way out of the club, with his manager also revealing that he has no control over whether his star player leaves Old Trafford.

“I am the victim, the fellow players are the victim, the club is the victim and that is why the transfer period needs to change,” the Dutchman added, “I cannot lead this process, I can only watch and observe and that is what I’m doing. I’m not participating in it.”

United have signed several players to try and improve on their fourth place finish in the Premier League from last season. Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, and Romero have all arrived, but these efforts could be derailed if they lose their goalkeeper.
