Still, the Metro now suggests that the sale of Angel Di Maria could speed up a move for the talented defensive player, with a £35m bid being prepared for the final weeks of the summer.
Otamendi would certainly be an upgrade on the likes of Chris Smalling and Daley Blind as options in the back four, with defence a weak point in the Reds’ squad last season.
