Manchester United to unveil €30m signing on Wednesday as first part of double swoop

Manchester United are set to unveil Barcelona star Pedro on Wednesday, reports MARCA.

The 27-year-old will play in the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla on Tuesday, and then will be allowed to leave the Nou Camp after over a decade of playing for the side. In that time the Spain international has made 318 appearances for the Blaugrana, scoring 98 goals.

United are keen on bringing the winger to Old Trafford after losing Angel Di Maria to PSG. The Argentinian joined the Ligue 1 champions for just £44.3 million, after arriving for £59.7 million last summer [BBC]. The drop in value comes after a terrible campaign for the forward, who ended up being replaced by a resurgent Ashley Young in the starting XI.

Pedro’s release clause is €30 million according to MARCA, but this may not be the end of the Red Devils’ spending this summer. Louis van Gaal has admitted that he could be after two new signings before the window slams shut, with the other potentially being a goalkeeper [official website].

With David De Gea edging towards a move to Real Madrid [Daily Mail], there could be a space to be filled between the sticks. Ajax star Jasper Cillessen is the man earmarked to replace the 24-year-old according to the Mail, and as such could be the second part of their double move.

However, United fans may be encouraged by the debut performance of Sergio Romero, who was on hand to keep Tottenham Hotspur at bay during the Red Devils’ Premier League opener on Saturday.
