Manchester United: David De Gea replacement getting more expensive ‘by the week’

Posted by

Ajax boss Frank De Boer has warned Manchester United that Jasper Cillessen is getting more expensive the longer they take to sign him, reports the Daily Mirror.

The Red Devils see the 26-year-old as a potential replacement for David De Gea, but while the Spaniard stays with them they haven’t made a move. In this time the Eredivisie giants have been unable to in turn sign a replacement for their player. As such, with the end of the transfer window in sight it is getting harder – and more expensive – to sign a goalkeeper.

“Man United will have to pay huge price for Cillessen,” said De Boer, “Let it be clear that we are going to take a really strong attitude and we will fight against him leaving at this stage. Why? Because we have seen all our three alternatives go out of sight and it gets harder and harder to find a decent replacement.

“To make it clear, Jasper is getting more expensive by the week, although there are certain figures that we can’t turn down.”

Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny, Tottenham’s Michel Vorm, and Southampton’s Maarten Stekelenburg were all on the Dutch side’s shortlist. However, none are going to move to the Amsterdam Arena, having either gone elsewhere or decided to stay with their clubs.

This leaves United in a tricky predicament, as De Gea edges towards Real Madrid. A bid for Atletico Madrid ace Jan Oblak has also been rejected [Metro], meaning that they are in trouble of being left with only Sergio Romero to put between the sticks.
