Man City confident of completing £46m assist-making playmaker signing this week

Man City are confident they will complete the capture of Wolfsburg star Kevin de Bruyne by the end of the week, according to the Daily Mail.

The 24-year-old has proven to be a massive hit since leaving Chelsea for Germany, with the Belgian finishing last season as the Bundesliga’s leading assist-maker by quite some distance, directly setting up 20 goals for his teammates.

De Bruyne also weighed in with 16 goals in all competitions as he helped Dieter Hecking’s side secure a Champion League berth for 2015/16.

The Daily Mail claim that Man City will offer £46m for de Bruyne, although the German side are said to want £50m for a player they paid £14m for in January 2014 (via The Guardian).

Manuel Pellegrini has sold Stevan Jovetic to Inter Milan and Edin Dzeko is nearing a move to AS Roma (via Sky Sports), although the Chilean has already moved to strengthen his attack with the big-money capture of Liverpool youngster Raheem Sterling.

De Bruyne’s ability to provide ammunition in abundance would offer Pellegrini a stronger wide-attacking option than the likes of Samir Nasri and Jesus Navas, both of whom struggled for form in 2014/15.

De Bruyne barely got a chance to prove himself at Stamford Bridge before Jose Mourinho opted to sell the playmaker, the former Racing Genk man being handed just two Premier League starts before he was offloaded.
