Everton and Newcastle have also been linked with a move for the 23-year-old [Daily Express], but it seems that the Potters have all but completed a move ahead of their rivals. Shaqiri was at their defeat to Liverpool on Sunday. The move is a complete surprise, given that the player was winning the Champions League with Bayern Munich just two years ago.
Since then the Switzerland international’s fortunes have dipped, despite starring for his country at the 2014 World Cup. He was unable to get regular football at the Allianz Arena, and joined the Nerazzurri last January. However, the winger still struggled to make an impact at the San Siro, managing one goal and two assists in 15 Serie A appearances.
Should the forward complete a move to the Britannia Stadium, then he will be just the latest in a string of surprisingly high-profile players to join Mark Hughes’ side. Bojan Krkic and Ibrahim Afellay two to have signed for them over the last 12 months.
