Arsenal ready to clinch SUPERB £55m Edinson Cavani signing as Wenger gives up on Karim Benzema

Emirates Stadium side turn attention to PSG star.

Arsenal are reportedly ‘ready to sign’ £55m rated PSG forward Edinson Cavani according to the Metro.

The North London side had been strongly linked with an interest in Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema but newly appointed Bernabeu boss Rafa Benitez has resisted offers for the French international, leading Arsene Wenger to switch his interest to Uruguayan forward Cavani.

Wenger is known to favour Cavani and the former Napoli man is said to be unhappy with his wide-attacking role under Parc des Princes boss Laurent Blanc.

Despite the fact the South American has been used out wide the powerful 28-year-old has still managed to net 56 goals in two seasons in the French capital, helping PSG to back to back Ligue 1 titles.

Wenger saw his side draw a blank in their opening weekend defeat to West Ham and this could trigger his push to dig deep and sign a prolific forward to spear-head his Gunners attack.

Olivier Giroud has proven a success since his move to the Emirates Stadium but his record of 54 goals in 135 appearances is by no mean spectacular.

Edinson Cavani has scored goals wherever he’s played, the strong marksman scoring 104 goals in three seasons in Naples prior to his move to the French capital, and could be tempted by a move to join Arsenal.
