Chelsea agree deal to sign £17m youngster as Jose Mourinho looks to resolve problem area

Chelsea have agreed a £17m deal to sign Augsburg left-back Abdul Rahman Baba, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 21-year-old Ghana international impressed in his debut season at Augsburg last term, helping the Bundesliga side to their highest-ever finish in the German top tier and securing a Europa League berth for the Fuggerstadter.

Jose Mourinho saw Filipe Luis leave Stamford Bridge earlier this summer, the Brazilian opting to return to Atletico Madrid after just one season in West London, and this has left Chelsea without a back-up for first-choice left-back Cesar Azpilicueta.

German source Bild report that Baba has already said farewell to Augsburg following his involvement in the club’s DFB Pokal win over Elversberg over the weekend.

Having agreed a deal to sign Baba Rahman, the Daily Mirror report that Chelsea want to complete the deal to bring the former Greuther Fürth youngster to Stamford Bridge this week.

Jose Mourinho has stated his concern that Chelsea’s lack of transfer activity could hamper the club’s push to retain their Premier League title (via the Daily Mirror) and the Portuguese manager has only made two high-profile signings thus far.

Chelsea have brought in Asmir Begovic from Stoke City, and signed AS Monaco forward Radamel Falcao on a loan deal, and both players came on as subs during the club’s 2-2 opening weekend draw with Swansea City.
