Manchester United: Fenerbahce make decisive statement on rumoured transfer target

Fenerbahce have issued a statement on their club website denying that they are keen on a move for Manchester United forward Adnan Januzaj.

The Turkish giants have already done considerable business with Louis van Gaal’s side so far this season, bringing in both Nani and Robin van Persie as the Dutch coach looks to offload the unwanted deadwood from the squad.

The Istanbul heavyweights have been linked with a third Old Trafford star, and are reportedly keen on signing young attacker Januzaj [Fanatik via the Express].

However, they were rumoured to face competition from two Premier League sides, with both Sunderland [Daily Star] and Everton [ESPN] having been linked to the forward earlier in the summer.

Fener appear to have stepped out of the race to sign the youngster, leaving the floor to the EPL duo, after publishing a statement on the official club website [via ESPN].

The announcement read: “Reports today in the Fotomac, Ukra and Takvim newspapers linking Fenerbahce with Januzaj and [Valencia forward Sofiane] Feghouli are false. We are not planning to sign either player.”

It may be that the young Belgian forward actually has a future at Old Trafford under van Gaal, despite making only seven Premier League starts last term.

The Red Devils are short in offensive options, having lost Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao as well as the aforementioned van Persie and Nani, and Januzaj—who starred under previous coach David Moyes—may be able to fill a void in van Gaal’s team.
