DONE DEAL: Oriol Romeu completes permanent transfer to Southampton from Chelsea

Barclays Premier League side Southampton have completed the signing of Spanish midfielder Oriol Romeu on a three-year contract.

The former Barcelona youth product’s move from Chelsea was confirmed via the Saints’ official Twitter account on Wednesday evening and becomes the seventh new arrival at St Mary’s Stadium during the current transfer window.

Romeu arrived in England from the Catalan giants in the summer of 2011, but has failed to establish himself as a regular at Stamford Bridge despite being named on the bench for the Champions League final victory over Bayern Munich in his debut season.

The 23-year-old has spent the last two campaigns out on-loan with La Liga giants Valencia and Bundesliga outfit VfB Stuttgart respectively and has now left West London on a permanent basis after making just 34 appearances for the Blues.

He could now make his debut for the Saints against Everton this weekend and will be hoping to help his new club register their first league victory of the new season.
