Bastian Schweinsteiger says Manchester United CAN win the Premier League title this season

Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger insists the Premier League title is not out of the question for his new club this season.

The Germany national team captain has won numerous honours for both club and country in his illustrious career including the Champions League in 2013 and the World Cup last summer.

After winning his eighth Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich last season, the 31-year-old joined the Red Devils earlier in the summer for a fee believed to be in the region of £15million to become the first ever German to play for the 20 times champions of England.

Despite many in the media tipping the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal to contest for the title this season, Schweinsteiger believes the quality of the squad at Old Trafford could see them pip their rivals for the championship:

“First of all, I think it is not easy to win a title in the Premier League, as you have really good teams here,” the midfielder told Sky Sports.

“But if everyone works hard together, and believes in each other, I think there is a chance to win the title.”

“We know what we can do and bring on the pitch, so we have to be convinced about ourselves, and I think we are, but we have to work a lot,” Schweinsteiger added.

United are back in action on Friday night as they travel to the Midlands for a clash against last season’s beaten FA Cup finalists Aston Villa and Schweinsteiger will be hoping to start the game after making his debut as a second half substitute against Tottenham on the opening day of the new campaign.
