DEAL OFF? Arsenal transfer blow as major £22m midfield target suffers injury

Arsenal have been handed a significant blow in their pursuit of Sevilla’s Grzegorz Krychowiak, as the midfielder has been hit with a worrying injury.

Krychowiak suffered a broken rib in the La Liga outfit’s UEFA Super Cup defeat to Barcelona on Tuesday night, which may have damaged his chances of a move to the Emirates Stadium.

The Telegraph suggest that Arsene Wenger, the Gunners manager, may now have been deterred from making a bid for his signature following the news that the 25-year-old will be sidelined for some weeks.

Wenger was said to have sent scouts to watch the Poland international’s performance against Barca earlier this week, and were considering meeting his release-clause of £21.26m.

Francis Coquelin is currently Arsenal’s first-choice holding midfielder, as Mikel Arteta is still returning to full fitness after a lengthy spell on the sidelines and Mathieu Flamini is set to leave north London this month.

Wenger may need more options in this position, as the 2-0 loss to West Ham United proved.
