Manchester United keen on €50m defensive ROCK after failing to sign Real Madrid star

Manchester United have turned their attention to Valencia star Nicolas Otamendi after failing to sign Real Madrid ace Sergio Ramos, reports MARCA.

The Red Devils have received a definitive no from the Bernabeu man, meaning that they have to look elsewhere to bolster their back line. The Argentina international is the player they have turned to, which comes at a terrible time for Los Che.

The La Liga outfit have a Champions League playoff against AS Monaco next week, and winning it will be vital to the success of their season. The Ligue 1 side got to the quarter finals of the competition last time round, and will be a stern test.

If United want to sign the centre-back, then members of the Valencia hierarchy insist that they will have to pay his €50 million release clause. However, MARCA also claim that the price could be negotiated down to nearer €40 million.

The Premier League club are in need of a centre-back after having to rely on the brilliant form of goalkeeper David De Gea last time round. With the Spain international currently so unsettled by rumours linking him to Real madrid that he isn’t playing, Louis van Gaal won’t be able to rely on him anymore and so will have to improve the area.
