Arsenal boss SLAMS ‘too nice’ and ‘too confident’ players

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has criticised his players for being too nice and too confident in matches, reports the Daily Mirror.

The Gunners lost 0-2 to West Ham on the opening weekend of the season, despite being widely tipped as challengers for the Premier League title. The loss was partly offset by Chelsea dropping points against Swansea City, but Manchester City’s win will have hurt the North Londoners.

“Sometimes, we are maybe too nice,” said Wenger, “If you want to say our aggressive level last Sunday was not big enough, then I would agree with you. It is maybe linked to the fact that we were too confident and thought we could win anyway.”

For a side made almost entirely of regular internationals, it is damning that their manager has to chide them for unprofessionalism. If they want to actually be in contention for the league title, then they will need to improve on this front.

Arsenal have other weaknesses as well, most notably up front. Real Madrid ace Karim Benzema has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, and a top-class striker may well be needed if they are going to be successful. Olivier Giroud is not at the same level as their rivals’ forwards Sergio Aguero and Diego Costa.
