City produced a statement of intent in the title race as they swept the Blues aside 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium to make it two victories from two games at the start of the new campaign thanks to goals from Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and Fernandinho.
The stunning performance has seen bookmakers install Manuel Pellegrini’s side as the new favourites to be crowned champions of England this season and Neville believes City have rediscovered the spark that inspired them to a pair of league titles in the last four years:
“They all look invigorated again. They look like the buzz is back,” the ex-Red Devils defender said on his Sky Sports Podcast.
“There is a little bit of a spark in the ground, the fans look happier and to me at this moment in time they look like the early runners,” Neville added.
The Citizens are back in action on Sunday as they face a tough trip to Merseyside for a clash with Everton at Goodison Park and will be hoping to avoid a repeat of the result in the corresponding fixture last season as the 1-1 draw saw them lose valuable ground in the title race.
