Manchester United‘s reported pursuit of Southampton forward Sadio Mane has garnered a typically hot reaction from those on social media and it’s safe to say a large number of Red Devils supporters aren’t best pleased with the speculation.
Telegraph Sport broke the news on Wednesday afternoon that United had inquired about the 23-year-old after seeing a deal for Barcelona winger Pedro hijacked by Premier League rivals Chelsea [via Marca], despite reports of chief executive Ed Woodward flying out to Spain to seal the £22million transfer earlier in the week [via Mail Sport].
Mane did enjoy a good first season in English football following his arrival from Red Bull Salzburg last summer as he scored 10 goals for the Saints and also broke the record for the quickest hat-trick in Premier League history as he netted three times in two minutes and 56 seconds against Aston Villa back in May.

However, despite that feat, it appears a section of United fans on Twitter aren’t convinced that the Senegalese international is good enough to play for the club:
£25m for Sadio Mane who will be missing for up to 6 weeks in African Nations Cup Or £22m for Pedro who is exactly what we needed?

Replacing Di Maria with Mane is worse than replacing Tevez and Ronaldo with Owen and Valencia. The club has no ambition.

Pedro isn’t world class but would have been a great addition. #Mane……well he’s just mid table PL quality. It’s that simple #mufc
