Manchester United plot REVENGE £56m bid for major Chelsea target after Pedro theft

Chelsea pounced on Manchester United‘s hesitation to make a move for Barcelona forward Pedro Rodriguez, agreeing a £21million transfer for the Spaniard on Thursday, but the Red Devils may be planning to upset their Premier League rivals with a bid for a new target.

The Metro cite reports from the Daily Mail that Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann is on the wish list of Louis van Gaal, the United manager.

Griezmann recently penned a new deal at the Estadio Vicente Calderon, which increased his release clause from €65million to €80million (£56m), but the Metro claim that the Red Devils would have no qualms in parting with the cash, particularly if upsetting Chelsea was also part of the deal.

The Blues have been heavily linked with Griezmann, with the rumour mill earlier this week claiming that Jose Mourinho, the club’s manager, had made an opening offer for the France international following their defeat to Manchester City.

According to reports, Pedro was in London on Wednesday undergoing his medical with the English champions, and supporters are now eagerly awaiting the confirmation of his transfer to Stamford Bridge.

Pedro is said to have reached the decision to join Chelsea ahead of United following a chat with Blues midfielder Cesc Fabregas and Red Devils goalkeeper Victor ValdesMourinho also made a personal phone call to the Spain international.
