Jose Mourinho JOKES Chelsea are on course to win the treble this season, despite poor start

Jose Mourinho has played down Chelsea‘s poor start to the new season and says they are on course to emulate two of his former clubs, Mail Sport reports.

The Blues dropped points the opening game of the campaign against Swansea City at Stamford Bridge and then lost away at fellow title rivals Manchester City last weekend, which has left them five points off the pace at this early stage.

However, Mourinho was quick to point out that he had almost identical starts with former clubs Porto and Inter Milan during the 2002-03 and 2009-10 seasons respectively and ended up winning the treble on both occasions:

“And seasons where I start with a 2-2 at home, I win the Treble. Porto, Inter v Bari, 2-2 against Swansea. So maybe this season… the treble,” he joked.

The Serie A giants didn’t actually begin that campaign with a 2-2 draw as the game against Bari ended 1-1 instead, but the point Mourinho is making is still valid….

Next up for the reigning Premier League champions is a trip to the Hawthorns on Sunday for a clash against West Brom and the visitors will be hoping to avenge the 3-0 defeat suffered in the corresponding fixture last season.
