Chelsea ready to spend nearly £100m to land two top summer transfer window targets

Chelsea are ready to spend as much as £100m to land Everton defender John Stones and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, according to the Daily Express.

Blue boss Jose Mourinho had seen his Blues side make little movement in the summer transfer window up until a week ago, with Asmir Begovic and Radamel Falcao having at that time been Chelsea’s only significant additions, but two poor Premier League results have led to the capture of Abdul Rahman Baba and Pedro in recent days.

Chelsea have collected just one point from their opening two Premier League fixtures, and the Daily Express believe that Mourinho will be backed in the transfer market as his West London side make big-money offers for two top young talents.

The Express believe Chelsea will offer up to £60m for French international midfield powerhouse Pogba, and are ready to make a fourth offer worth just under £40m for 21-year-old England international Stones.

Mourinho surprisingly opted to sub captain John Terry at half-time during Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat to Man City and a move for Stones would offer his side a fresh option at the back.

Pogba would offer Chelsea a fresh, direct, option in the middle of the park, and the former Manchester United man certainly has the ability to be a huge success back in the Premier League. However, he is surely a player Massimiliano Allegri would be loath to lose, especially after having seen first-team stars Carlos Tevez and Arturo Vidal depart over the summer.
