Manchester United legend SLAMS Louis van Gaal after Newcastle draw

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has slammed Louis van Gaal in the aftermath of their 0-0 draw with Newcastle United, reports the Metro.

The former midfielder was unhappy with the Dutchman describing aspects of the performance as fantastic, and also bemoaned the lack of goalscorers in the team. The absence of any real attacking threat in the final third has also annoyed the Old Trafford hero.

“He said ‘fantastic’ a few times. I didn’t really see anything fantastic about it at all,” said Scholes, “You’re at home against Newcastle, you’re expected to win the game. The visiting keeper has one save to make. Fantastic? No, not for me.

“Man City frighten me, the goals you see in that team is incredible. I look at our team and I just don’t see the same goal threat. I don’t see goals from anywhere. If Wayne’s (Rooney) not scoring, who is going to score? Chicharito possibly, we know Memphis is capable. But I just don’t think everybody is chipping in to the goal count which is what you need.”

The Red Devils’ stalemate with the Magpies put an end to their winning start to the season. However, their victories over Tottenham and Aston Villa were far from convincing, with captain Wayne Rooney particularly disappointing in both games.

If United are going to challenge Chelsea and Manchester City for the Premier League title, then they are going to have to improve drastically. They will also have to better their current performances to justify the vast amounts of money they have spent on players over the last two summers. Should there be no improvement in this campaign, then van Gaal could come under serious pressure.
