Chelsea loath to lose first-team pair to sign £70m Serie A star

Chelsea do not want to lose Willian and Oscar as part of a move for Juventus star Paul Pogba, reports the Independent.

The Blues hierarchy are keen to bring the 22-year-old to Stamford Bridge, but are loath to weaken their squad in order to do so. This is especially relevant after they have made a poor start to the season, drawing with Swansea City and losing to Manchester City.

The Old Lady want £70 million for the France international, according to the Independent, and the player himself will want more than the £200,000-a-week that Eden Hazard currently earns. The Premier League outfit have already had a bid rejected, according to the Daily Mirror, and it is unknown how long negotiations could take with less than two weeks left in the window.

Chelsea have recently signed Pedro from Barcelona and Abdul Baba Rahman from Augsburg, after they failed to improve their starting line up for much of the summer. Asmir Begovic and Radamel Falcao had arrived before the season began, but neither is likely to play regularly unless there are serious injury worries.

Last season, Pogba managed eight goals and three assists in 26 Serie A appearances, and was a vital part of the Bianconeri team which won both the league and the Coppa Italia. They also made it to the final of the Champions League, where they lost to Barcelona.

He may be brought to the club alongside Everton ace John Stones, who the Blues are yet to prise away from Goodison Park [Daily Star]. However, Toffees boss Roberto Martinez recently claimed that even a transfer request wouldn’t force a move [Daily Mail], so it could be difficult to complete a deal before the window slams shut on September 1.
