Chelsea ‘in discussions’ with Argentina international centre back after Jose Mourinho request

Chelsea are ‘in discussions’ to sign Zenit St. Petersburg star Ezequiel Garay, according to the Metro.

The Blues have been heavily linked with a move for Everton ace John Stones this summer, but after seeing a number of bids for the 21-year-old rejected they appear to have moved on. Jose Mourinho himself has requested the club to sign the 28-year-old, making the move increasingly likely to happen.

The Stamford Bridge outfit are in need of a new defender after conceding eight goals in their first three games of the season. John Terry and Gary Cahill have both looked off the pace, with the latter being dropped for Kurt Zouma in their most recent match against West Brom.

Garay wouldn’t solve the problem of lacking pace in the centre of their back line, but he could bring a reliable performer with Champions League and international experience. Last season he made 26 appearances for the Russian club, helping them to win the league and get to the last 16 of the Champions League.
