Chelsea have emerged as surprise leaders in the race to sign Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin before the end of the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old shone in the Premier League last season, despite QPR’s relegation, establishing himself as one of the finest finishers in the top flight with 18 goals in 35 games.

Chelsea could do with more firepower up front as the likes of Diego Costa, Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao struggle this season, and it seems Jose Mourinho will try to beat clubs like Crystal Palace to Austin’s signature, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The England hopeful would cost around £15m, and could prove a bargain if he continues to show that prolific touch in the penalty area.
