Louis van Gaal’s Red Devils face Swansea City away on Sunday in one of the club’s sternest tests to date this season.
United have faced Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Newcastle United so far this season, and while they haven’t yet conceded a goal, they have been less than impressive in attack.
They only bested Spurs thanks to a Kyle Walker own goal in their opening fixture, while it took a moment of inspiration from Adnan Januzaj to overcome Villa in their second match. Against Newcastle, they were toothless, certainly raising doubts as to whether Swansea can secure a positive result on Sunday.
Sky Sports pundit Merson certainly feels that the Swans can unsettle the Red Devils, making Garry Monk’s side favourites for Sunday’s clash.
Last week United couldn’t break Newcastle down. They fell over the line against Villa, fell over the line against Spurs. You can’t keep on doing that.
Swansea keep the ball. I make them favourites and for some reason they are not, they’re big outsiders for this football match with the bookies. I make this heads or tails, and I’ll go with the heads of Swansea.
Rooney got back on the scoresheet against Club Brugge, but I’m not a fan of his in the centre-forward role. He needs to play No 10, and he needs to touch the ball 50 times in a game, not 25 times.
I want him facing the goal, picking players out and making chances. I’m his biggest fan, but not when he’s up front.
