Arsenal poised to launch STUNNING £44m bid for Ligue 1 striker on transfer deadline day

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reportedly planning to make a deadline day offer for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani.

The Gunners boss has been frustrated in his pursuit of a new centre-forward so far during the transfer window and his need to bolster in that department was further highlighted during their 1-0 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.

Real Madrid superstar Karim Benzema had been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium until he posted an image via his official Twitter account earlier in the week pledging his future to the Liga BBVA giants.

This has forced Wenger into turning his attentions elsewhere and according to reports in Spanish outlet Fichajes [via Metro Sport], Cavani has emerged as his number one transfer target.

The report adds that 28-year-old will cost the Gunners in the region of £44million and that would smash their current club record transfer record by £2million.
