Manchester United: Defender transfer completed

Posted by

Manchester United defender Tyler Blackett has completed his season-long loan move to Scottish giants Celtic.

The youngster enjoyed something of a breakout campaign last season, featuring 12 times as Louis van Gaal sought the right balance for his backline.

He signed a new long-term contract at Old Trafford in February [according to the Mirror], and would appear to be held in high regard by the club’s hierarchy.

However, with Marcos Rojo establishing himself in English football and Daley Blind demonstrating his ability to play in the back four in recent fixtures, it would appear as though Blackett’s chances of first-team football would have been limited at United this term.

The 21-year-old has moved to Celtic on a one-year deal [via the Celtic official website], which should give him the chance to enjoy a full campaign of first-team action.

The Hoops enjoyed the services of Manchester City defender Jason Denayer on loan last term, and Blackett may well feature alongside his replacement Dedryck Boyata in the heart of the defence, or in a full-back role.

Blackett won the 2011 Youth Cup with United.
