Man United set to complete €80m striker signing on transfer deadline-day

Old Trafford side to spent vast sum on teenage forward.

Man United’s move to bring in AS Monaco forward Anthony Martial could end up costing the Old Trafford side as much as €80m (£58m) according to respected Times reporter Duncan Castles.

The deal would see the Premier League outfit forking out an initial €50m (£36m) for the 19-year-old striker as well as an additional €30m (£22m) in performance-related bonuses that are apparently easily attained.

Such an outlay smacks of desperation with Louis van Gaal finding himself severely short of striking options with the Man United manager having elected to sell Robin van Persie to Fenerbahce earlier in the summer and sanctioning the sale of Javier Hernandez to Bayer Leverkusen on Monday.

Though there is no denying the great potential Anthony Martial possesses there will be some who question the size of the fee Man United are willing to risk on such a capture.

Martial netted 11 goals in all competitions last season and is already a regular in the French Under 21 national team set-up.
