Manchester United announce signing of most expensive teenager and Frenchman ever

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of a new striker, with Anthony Martial pictured on their official Twitter page after his move from AS Monaco.

The 19-year-old had been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford today, with the Daily Mail reporting that he was set to cost a whopping £58m, and that the Red Devils had beaten rivals Chelsea to his signature.

United fans will be pleased to see a new arrival in attack after an unconvincing start to the season, which has seen United struggle to score.

Having let the likes of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao leave this summer, United only had Wayne Rooney to choose from as a centre-forward, and he is yet to get off the mark in the Premier League.

This poor run of form means United have only managed three goals in their first four league games, and Martial will now be tasked with improving his side’s goal tally.

A pacey and skillful forward, the teenager is a regular for Monaco and managed 12 goals in all competitions last season. He is regarded as a great prospect for the future, particularly for the French national side, who he will likely represent at the European Championships next summer.

His deadline day arrival caps a busy summer for United, who have also brought in big names like Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay.

According to the Daily Star, Martial will become both the most expensive teenager and the most expensive French player ever.
