‘Who’s Martial?’ Wayne Rooney CLUELESS as to imminent £36m Manchester United signing’s identity, reveals Morgan Schneiderlin

Just like the majority of Premier League fans, even Wayne Rooney doesn’t know who Manchester United‘s imminent new signing Anthony Martial is.

BBC Sport announced on Monday that United were nearing a £36m deal for Martial, and the youngster was given permission to leave the France national team boss Didier Deschamps to undergo the remaining formalities of the transfer.

If the move is agreed before the close of the summer window, he will become the most expensive teenager in world football.

And Rooney’s Red Devils team-mate and Martial’s compatriot Morgan Schneiderlin has revealed that the England international approached him to ask who the Monaco forward is following the news that the 19-year-old was closing in on a move to Old Trafford.

United supporters are still coming to terms with the reports that their club are set to part with such a significant amount of cash for a player that few are familiar with, and will likely be spending the next few hours channeling YouTube for compilation clips – it seems Rooney could be doing the same:

“To be honest, yesterday [Sunday] on the plane, Wayne Rooney came to speak to me and asked me who Martial was, because the English press had started to speak,” Schneiderlin told reporters at France’s training base at Clairefontaine, as quoted by Goal.

“I told him he’s a great player with great potential, who has played some good matches with Monaco last season and the the beginning of this.

“I told him he is technical and powerful. A little like Therry Henry, even if it’s the press who are making that comparison.”
