Manchester United star tipped to return after Real Madrid saga

Manchester United star David De Gea has been tipped to return to the first team after his move to Real Madrid failed, reports talkSPORT.

The 24-year-old looked set to move to the Bernabeu in the final days of the transfer window, until the clubs didn’t file the necessary paperwork in time. The player is now in a very awkward position, with manager Louis van Gaal so far leaving him out of his starting XI. It being a European Championships year makes minutes vital to get in to the national team.

However, Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan has revealed that goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek believes the Spain international can return to the first team fold.

“There is no friction between the goalkeeping coach and De Gea. There is no problem; nothing has changed despite certain things coming out. As soon as he plays a few games in goal and if the results are good, he [Hoek] is convinced he can get the player back in goal. Whether Van Gaal will decide to let him back in goal, we don’t know.”

The Red Devils have been relying on Sergio Romero between the sticks so far this campaign, but there are doubts over the Argentina international’s reliability in the long term. De Gea has been their player of the season for the last two years, and as such it would be a huge boost if he could get back to his best between the sticks.
