Monaco chief confirms Man Utd DESPERATE to sign overpriced Anthony Martial

Monaco delighted to bring in so much for unproven starlet.

AS Monaco chief Vadim Vasilyev admits Manchester United were desperate in their efforts to sign Anthony Martial before this summer’s transfer deadline.

The Russian, who works as vice-president with the Ligue 1 club, sounded surprised to see the young French forward leave for such a huge sum, which he confirmed could reach £57.6m due to ‘realistic’ add-ons in the deal.

Vasilyev compared the money United offered with the kind one would expect teams to pay for players like Luis Suarez and Neymar.

“It’s true that the price for Martial is £57.6m but take into account this sum includes bonuses which are very realistic,” he is quoted in The Sun.

“Since last week United started to make offers which we declined several times — £21.6m, £28.8m, £36m, even £50.4m with bonuses.

“On Monday morning Manchester United made an offer to Monaco which the club couldn’t refuse.

“It’s absolutely unique. It’s the price of Luis Suarez or Neymar — the best players in the world.”
