Real Madrid star attempted to engineer own Manchester United transfer day after De Gea farce

Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas tried to engineer his own transfer to Manchester United a day after the deal involving David De Gea collapsed.

Navas was included in the player-plus-cash deal to see De Gea finally make a move to the Santiago Bernabeu; however, the paperwork was not finalised before the close of Spain’s summer window at 11pm UK time on Monday, and both clubs predictably passed blame on each other for the collapse.

Navas, according to the Daily Mirror, was desperate to swap Madrid for Manchester, and on Tuesday attempted to save his move to Old Trafford.

He was reportedly ready and waiting to set off to England to undergo his medical with the Premier League heavyweights, but Real – unsurprisingly – refused to grant the goalkeeper his wish.

Such a claim is certainly questionable given Navas is likely to be Los Blancos’ No.1 for the season following the exit of Iker Casillas, and United currently have De Gea, Sergio Romero and Victor Valdes competing for a position.
