Arsenal legend claims Arsene Wenger hasn’t done enough to win Premier League

Arsenal legend Sol Campbell believes that manager Arsene Wenger didn’t do enough in the summer to guarantee winning the Premier League title, reports the Daily Express.

The 40-year-old thinks that the Gunners should have signed more top-class players during the transfer window. Petr Cech from Chelsea was the only arrival at the Emirates Stadium, with them being the only team in Europe’s top five leagues to not sign an outfield player.

“To win the Premier League, if they don’t buy any more players, they really need everybody fit,” said Campbell, “There was talk of Karim Benzema coming, and really if they want to win the Premier League, Arsenal need to push the boat out to get those special players who will make a difference.

“You can’t make one big signing. Everybody does that, and you never move on. In the middle they need experienced players.”

The North London outfit do seem to have missed a trick by not signing Benzema, especially after scoring only three times in the first four Premier League games. Two of those goals have been the opposition putting it in to their own net, making the problem even more pronounced.

The former defender’s assertion that more experience is needed in the middle of the park could also be pertinent. Francis Coquelin’s performance against Crystal Palace showed that the 24-year-old may not have the necessary experience to feature regularly in a title race. He was lucky not to get sent off in the encounter, with several rash challenges after being issued a yellow card.
